Careers in education require knowledge of the US educational system, child/adolescent development, literature for children and youth, cultural sensitivity, critical thinking skills, verbal and written communication skills, creativity, organization and teamwork.

Careers in social services related to children require knowledge of child/adolescent development and child/adolescent psychology, family systems, knowledge of the history and development of the US child welfare system, cultural sensitivity, critical thinking skills, active listening skills, verbal and written communication skills, and empathy.
