Congratulations to the 2013-2014 Marsh-Gillette Fellows

Congratulations go out to Vibiana Bowman-Cvetkovic and Cynthia Maurer, recipients of the 2013-2104 Marsh-Gillette Fellowships in Childhood Studies. These doctoral candidates were selected as Marsh-Gillette Fellows on the basis of their dissertation research.  Vibiana studies the early years of independent children’s television in Philadelphia with a focus on analyzing how the charismatic show hosts, sponsorship and the domestic containment of the Cold War combined to produce a new kind of child audience. Cynthia’s research examines the different ways in which tween girls make use of the stories and characters of live-action television shows in order to facilitate participation in their social worlds.

The Marsh-Gillette Fellowship is made possible by the generosity of former FAS Dean Margaret Marsh and Professor Howard Gillette in 2010 in order to support research by Childhood Studies doctoral students.  We owe our gratitude to Dean Marsh and Professor Gillette for their foresight and support of the Department and graduate education on campus.
