Indigo in Green offers nature-based art workshops and educational resources designed to inspire exploration and connection with nature, community, and self. Founded by teaching artist Nicole Duprée, Indigo in Green blends art, ecology, and storytelling through hands-on learning experiences in gardens and green spaces, as well as through the production of a TV series that airs on PhillyCAM. Our seasonal programming invites participants to explore the world of plants and natural materials through activities like botanical ink-making, printmaking, natural dyeing, and journaling. We also center practices of nourishment and care—like preparing tea and sharing good local food grown by people we know and love—as part of the creative and communal experience.
Community partnerships and workshop sites include Philadelphia parks, gardens, and farms such as Farm 51, Bartram’s Garden, the Village of Arts & Humanities, the Wyck House, the Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden, Morris Arboretum, and the Fair Amount Food Forest.
Interns who contribute to the documentation process will be credited in the production of the Indigo in Green TV episode featuring the 2025 indigo project. This internship offers a unique opportunity to support community art workshops and help document a project supported by the Leeway Foundation, while gaining practical experience in art education, creative documentation, and sustainable craft and land care practices.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with planning and preparation for nature-based art workshops
- Support on-site workshop setup, facilitation, and clean-up
- Edit and organize materials for workshop participants, including signage, handouts, and zines
- Document workshops through photography and video
- Help organize and archive digital files and workshop materials
- Help care for plants and assist with harvest and processing of natural dye plants into dye and pigment for workshops and materials for projects
- Assist with creating and basic editing of media content for a PhillyCAM TV segment on the indigo project

Job Requirements:
This is a hybrid internship with a mix of remote and in-person responsibilities. Some tasks—like planning sessions, documentation review, and resource creation—can be completed remotely. Other responsibilities, such as garden work, workshop setup, and on-site support, will require in-person engagement at locations throughout Philadelphia.
Most in-person work will take place at community gardens and workshop sites such as Farm 51 (West Philadelphia), the Fair Amount Food Forest (Fairmount Park Horticulture Center), and the Indigo in Green workshop and garden site (Mt. Airy). All sites are accessible by public transportation. While a car is not required, the ideal candidate will be comfortable navigating Philadelphia or may have access to a personal vehicle.
Schedule:
Remote work hours are flexible. In-person events or workshops typically take place on weekends, mainly Saturdays, and last 2–4 hours. On-site material preparation in the gardens can be scheduled on weekdays, ideally in the morning during warmer months. Occasional planning meetings may be held remotely and over the phone.
