The Neighborhood Center-Bridges Teen Program

The mission of The Neighborhood Center is to generously love our neighbors as ourselves with abundant service and hope today and every day. We focus on a two-generation approach to lifting families out of poverty. We are committed to providing a safe space for Academic achievement, Athletic accomplishment and a flourishing Arts program. With 110 years of service to the community, our hope and vision for the next century of The Neighborhood Center is to create a “community living room.”

“Bridges” Teen Program is designed to increase the odds of students living healthy and productive adult lives.

Our mission is to serve as a bridge for teens (13-18) living in Camden, NJ to reach their fullest potential and desired future. Through genuine relationships that support them as individuals, we ensure safe spaces, create strong community connections and expose students to necessary resources, learning opportunities and experiences in order to become more well rounded individuals with a clearer sense of purpose and direction.

This internship can be either hybrid (mix of onsite and independent work) or 100% onsite in person. Candidates must spend a minimum of 4 hrs onsite per week during program hours between 11am and 6pm. Parking is available onsite and the site is also accessible by public transit.

About the internship: Students will work directly with the Bridges Teen Program Manager and implement impact data tracking, annual reporting and special programming for youth enrolled within the program. The program focuses on ensuring a safe space for teens while providing workforce development, career readiness, college preparation, mental health awareness, arts enrichment, field trips, and social and emotional development. The intern will also be able to utilize their personal skills and interests to implement new workshops and special events to assist our youth.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist program development director create and review student assessments, survey and data trackers. The intern will help create summary reports and design data tools, infographics, and other materials that help report progress to executive staff, board members, funders and the local community.
  • Provide support creating and implementing lesson plans, workshops and special events for students. Interns will have the freedom to utilize skills developed within their respective majors and personal interests. Some interns will also be provided the opportunity to create and become instructors for workshops with the support of program facilitators.
  • Work directly with program students providing support in a variety of ways including, mentorship, tutoring, workshop assistance, field trip chaperones and other ways.
  • Provide multimedia and marketing support; such as flyers, social media templates, photography to further promote the program, events, student highlights.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with or ability to learn about the Neighborhood Center and the development of Camden area youth.
  • Understanding or willingness to diversify skills, work in a professional setting, how to work with teens and the process of data collection.
  • Experience with Google tools such as docs, sheets, virtual meetings and proficiency in working with marketing tools such as canva.
  • Ability to move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Experience researching topics and developing content, in addition to the ability to work independently and with a team. Intern will report directly to the program development director.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage diverse audiences
  • Experience with social media platforms and website content management systems (WordPress/Wix)
  • A passion for education, community engagement, and the advocacy for youth.
