Founded in 1899, the Camden County Historical Society (CCHS) is a public, non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, study, interpretation, and cultural enrichment of life in Camden County and Southern New Jersey.
Over the past few years, CCHS has partnered with community members and local organizations to co-curate new exhibits to improve the way local history is told. Current exhibits at CCHS include: “Say My Name” Enslaved Africans of Pomona Hall, the Lenni-Lenape “We’re Still Here” exhibit, Revolutionary War in Southern New Jersey, The Victor Carstarphen Camden Legends Hall of Fame (Featuring musicians and other entertainers from Camden City), the San Juan Bautista Parade, and “Made in Camden.”
Community partnerships include organizations like Parkside Businesses and Community in Partnership (PBCIP) and Roots to Prevention. These partnerships led to the creation of the Parkside History Garden, the Welcome to Parkside mural, and the “Castle on the Hill” Sculpture Park + Rain Garden that surround the CCHS
About the Internship:
The Camden County Historical Society has a mixture of exhibits that cover different topics and there are a variety of projects that student interns can work on to help improve diversity, equity, and inclusion across our site. The Camden County Historical Society is located at 1900 Park Boulevard in Camden City, New Jersey and is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 am-4 pm and the first Sunday of each month from 1-4 pm.
Transportation: There is public parking in front of the CCHS. Our location is about three blocks from the Ferry Avenue PATCO stop and about two blocks from Haddon Avenue at Vesper Blvd bus stop.
All projects can be considered hybrid. Initial meetings and some on-site work will be required during the CCHS’s operating hours, to be determined by the project scope. Most available projects will have some components (research, writing, online content creation) that can be completed remotely.
