Congratulations to the 2015-2016 Marsh-Gillette Fellows

Congratulations go out to Ellen Malven and Theresa Murzyn, recipients of the 2015-2016 Marsh-Gillette Fellowships in Childhood Studies. These doctoral candidates were selected as Marsh-Gillette Fellows on the basis of their dissertation research.

Ellen’s research explores adolescent perspectives of consumerism and environmentalism at both an environmental charter high school and an arts high school.  Her goal is to better understand the potential connections between adolescent social/educational culture, adolescent media interpretations, and adolescent environmental and consumer perspectives at each school.  Theresa’s research will investigate rejection sensitivity (RS) among emerging adults (18- to 25-year-olds).  Rejection sensitivity is a dispositional tendency stemming from early life rejection that leads an individual to expect rejection and respond strongly to ambiguous social actions as perceived rejection.  Theresa will explore how individual differences in rejection sensitivity impact emerging adults’ conversational behavior and accounts of past rejection experiences.

The Marsh-Gillette Fellowship is made possible by the generosity of former FAS Dean Margaret Marsh and Professor Howard Gillette in 2010 in order to support research by Childhood Studies doctoral students.  We owe our gratitude to Dean Marsh and Professor Gillette for their foresight and support of the Department and graduate education on campus.
